Strathkinness High Road

Strathkinness is less than 2 miles from St Andrews, we wish to see more travel by bike between St Andrews and Strathkinness, for work, school, and leisure.

The High Road currently is a rat-run, we would like to see it made more suitable for cycling and to take advantage of the St Andrews West development which is making wholesale changes to this part of town and the intersection of the roadways.

We in conjunction with Strathkinness Community Council are studying the St Andrews West plans, discussing potential options to enable the High Road to be a key active travel route to town.

St Andrews West is a major development of St Andrews to the north and west, a continuation of Bell Brae and development of the area around the new Madras School and Strathkinness High Road.

We think the High Road is the ideal route for active travel between the two communities, and the development presents the opportunity to deliver improvements to realise the potential.

Workers and school students should be able to commute in safety, residents to run errands and visit friends, family, and the shops, as well as the health and recreation benefits for cyclists, runners and walkers.

We think that all options should be considered. While segregated paths are best, they are costly and take the most time. We would also like developers and Fife Council to consider more immediate measures like traffic management and a speed reduction.
