About Us

We’re a group of people who want to see more people riding bikes. The group has members from all aspects of the community. We do have three named positions; currently our secretary is Averill, treasurer Patrick, and chair Richard.

Richard our chair is a former St Andrews to Dundee cycling commuter, leads our regular group rides, and takes to two wheels for all kinds of leisure and sporting pursuits.

He’s also chair of Kinross Cycling Club, has been known to compete in a time trial, and audax events, as well as popping to the shops on two wheels.

Averill our secretary has lived in St Andrews since the 1980s and has always used the bike to get around town. She had a Pashley trike to transport her children. Whilst on the community council she was a proponent of the Guardbridge cycle path being built.

She still loves cycling but prefers to be segregated from traffic these days.

Lydia has been involved over the last few years with SASC to drive the campaign for improving the St Andrews-Guardbridge cycle path, which she cycles on regularly. She’s on her bike every day, for commuting, leisure and competing.

She is a lecturer at the University of St Andrews, teaching and doing research on the use and management of environments in Scotland and further afield.

Tony our former-chair founded SASC with the help of others in 2016. Tony set a vision that St Andrews could become the most cycling friendly town in Scotland.

He is a retired consultant paediatrician, concerned about the climate, and how active travel can do it’s part to make our communities safer, greener, more pleasant places to be.

We meet regularly as a group and welcome anyone to join. We have at least one in-person event a year – usually our AGM where we invite a speaker too.

We are thankful for regular attendance and support from St Andrews councillors Jane Ann Liston and Robin Lawson, who share our motivation for cycling and safer spaces for cycling.
