Pedalling

We’re about getting people out on two (and three+) wheels as much as campaigning for more provision and safe spaces to do so.

Cycling saves money, improves physical and mental health, reduces congestion and wasted space in our towns, but most of all it’s fun, and often the most efficient mode of transport.

We’ve pulled some resources together here to help and support your riding.

Getting Started from Scratch

The best bike is the one you’ve got. Starting out don’t worry if it’s a folding, hybrid, mountain, or anything else – the specialisms can certainly help in some specific situations, but they all can take you to the post office, school, or Parkrun…

If you don’t have a bike a local bike shop or Transition St Andrews might be able to set you up with a reliable second hand set of wheels. Looking new again a local bike shop might have some options, but if you’re ok with a spanner, Decathlon offer a selection of good bikes for a range of budgets.

If you’d like specific advice join us on our Facebook page, or send us a message.

Commuting

Be your destination, work, school or the shops it’s often quickest and easiest by bike. Check bike parking, and the most suitable route on the map provided by our friends at Transition St Andrews. If coming a little further check our page of tips and routes from local towns and villages.

Local Bike Shops

Local bike shops are great for advice, local knowledge, maintenance, and picking up the latest supplies. There are two in St Andrews, with a couple more nearby.

Cyclepath – Pipeline Road, St Andrews
Local independent bike shop, great for advice, sales and bike rental. Unfortunately their workshop recently closed.

Spokes – South Street, St Andrews
Local bike shop also with a bigger store in Dundee. New bikes, accessories and workshop.

Fife Cycles – Leuchars
Shop and workshop operating 30+ years from Leuchars.

2 Wheel Care – Cupar
Workshop-only, by appointment. Second hand bikes regularly available.

Bike Pool – Transition St Andrews
Not a shop, but Bike Pool run regular sessions where bikes can be checked and small fixes in sessions with a mechanic usually at Cosmos Centre, and David Russell Apartments.

Support

Cycling is great solo, but little can build confidence better than speaking and riding with others. We run regular rides which are great to meet, build skills, and ask questions.

We’re also on social media and have a welcoming Facebook community.
